Bushcraft Essentials - Micro stove edcbox

A wilderness kitchen so small it fits in your wallet but fully functional. Holds a tealight, some knitting needles and fire lighter. An ingenious solution. The entire kitchen goes into a wallet or is attached to the key chain.

What do you use the Micro Stove EDCBox for?

Exactly the same things you use its bigger sibling for. With smaller sticks and cones, it is excellent to get a real heat that can correspond to a Trangia burner. Esbit tablets or similar can also be used perfectly, which provides immediate and smoke-free heat. The absolute strength of the kitchen lies in the minimal design, and the kitchen literally fits in your pocket and is assembled in a few seconds. Boiling a liter of water on this kitchen is no problem at all

Who is the Micro Stove EDCBox suitable for?

Those who either want an extra kitchen in reserve or those who want to pack minimally and whose biggest need is to boil water. It is of course possible to place a frying pan on this kitchen as well, but it is mainly intended for boiling water

The technology behind a hobo stove

A hobo stove is designed so that it becomes self-drafting which partly concentrates the heat to a smaller point, partly uses the fuel more efficiently and creates less smoke. The fact that you also don't leave traces behind through a bonfire directly on the ground can also be positive, as these were often used in an urban environment from the start. The name Hobo Stove originally comes from homeless people (hobo's) making the kitchen out of a used can, where they simply modified the construction into a kitchen. The effect, albeit in a new design, is what is created in modern factory-made and folding kitchens. The sum is that you get a small storm kitchen, which effectively lives on small sticks instead of gas or alcohol.

Materials

Bushbox comes either in a high-quality stainless steel or in titanium. The stainless steel is substantial, robust and comes at a lower price. Titanium is stronger and weighs less than steel but is slightly more expensive. So if weight is decisive, you should choose titanium. If the weight is not that important and you want to save a couple of hundred bucks, you should absolutely choose the high-quality steel.

Care advice

Always let the kitchen cool down naturally after use. Never pour cold water on hot steel as it can harden and make the kitchen difficult to assemble. The same goes for overheating. Fire at a reasonable pace, partly because overheating of the steel can occur, partly because you are consuming more fuel than is necessary. When cleaning, anything but steel wool can be used (which can leave iron particles and rust). The best natural cleaners are sand or horsetail (a plant, it's actually one of the best materials for cleaning pots, plates, cutlery and metal in general). Indoors, you can use a kitchen sponge or run your cooker through the dishwasher.
